An innovative vision and techniques
It didn’t take Jacques Dessange long to revolutionize the industry with his iconic coiffé-décoiffé (bed head look) and Californian balayage techniques. His unique expertise, techniques and approach, allowed him to quickly join the echelon of hairdressing greats and, in turn, raise the profile of an undervalued profession. The DESSANGE group continues to carry forward this legacy today.
Jacques DESSANGE was quite simply a hair visionary. Everyone remembers the Anabis portrait from 1983. This timeless, modern cut has inspired generations of women and is the very embodiment of the DESSANGE signature. Model Catherine Ahnell, who showed off platinum blond highlights and a sullen pout, still remembers the shoot.

zu mir gepasst. Ich denke, genau deshalb war die Kampagne so ein Riesenerfolg, weil sie so echt war!
Die Bilder waren sofort überall. Und ich glaube, dass ich auch ein bisschen wegen dieser Kampagne von
Eileen Ford in New York zum „Supermodel des Jahres” 1984 ernannt wurde.

From the very start of the DESSANGE adventure, Jacques Dessange revolutionized the industry with his audacity and pioneering vision. In 1938, at the age of just 13, he started to work in his father’s hair salon, absorbing a wealth of knowledge that he would later pass on. Then, after securing his diploma, 20-year-old Jacques Dessange headed to Paris to earn his stripes. It was an eye-opener. In the post-war era of backcombing and sleek waves, he set about offering women alternatives, with more freedom and more natural looks. These styles still embody DESSANGE seventy years later. Mr Dessange was known for saying:
“Madame, a hairstyle is alive. When a woman moves her head, her hair should move with her.”
Driven by his innovative vision, Jacques Dessange bought the Floria Glory beauty salon at 37 avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt in Paris’ prestigious 8th arrondissement. It was in this 120 m2 space that he opened his first salon, which would be run by a specialized team of around ten stylists. And so the adventure began.

DESSANGE formed a connection with all women. Jacques Dessange understood that a hair salon could be a haven, promising a sense of well-being and a confidence boost. This insight inspired his iconic 80s slogan, “Jacques Dessange, recoiffe-moi le moral” (Jacques Dessange, make over my morale). All of his clients - ordinary women, celebrities he met on film sets, personalities with whom he rubbed shoulders backstage at runway shows - were given the same Jacques Dessange treatment. Brigitte Bardot, Sheila, France Gall, Claudia Cardinale, Sylvie Vartan, not to mention France Anglade and Marie Laforêt. They all swore by the precise, avant-garde approach of this legendary figure and owed their memorable looks to him. Jacques Dessange ensured that the DESSANGE brand is synonymous with style and expertise.
